19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Recovering Nepal has been concluded on 9th February 2017 at Darbarthok Banquet, Pokhara, Kaski. The event was chaired by Mr. Bishnu Fueal Sharma, the chairperson of the organization. The event was inaugurated by lighting the candle by Chief Guest Dinesh Kumar Chapagai an honorable Chief District Public Health Officer. The AGM has reviewed its programme activities and set the future plan of action with its executive board, general member`s organization, thematic networks and staff. In total, 130 participants attended the meeting which includes member`s organizations, networks and staffs.
After the inaugural session, Siva Neupane, Chair of the western region, Pokhara RN welcomed all the participants and present a brief overview of the organization. He also shared the drug abuse is not a personal problem its common issue which affects our nation day by day. To reduce drug problem we have to join hand with common understanding. We have to change our working modality and need to adopt Support Don`t punish. Recovering Nepal has faced many challenges but never forget to promote health & right of a key population. And regional office Pokhara hopes a new leader also led the organization to achieve the goal and express the warmest welcome to all the participants on Pokhara.
Achut Sitaula President of National Association of People living with HIV (NAPN+), expressed his happiness and thankfulness for inviting as a guest in the AGM. He shared his sentiment in Millennium Development Goal and Drug and HIV situation of the country. Now a day funding is corrugating and community fragmented effect national issue and raises a question on where is future. Work of an RN and affiliated organizations` quality services, need to evaluate their liability before claiming their rights. Beside that he also put forward that RN should be distributed rights among leaders, improving available resource mobilization, discourage personal relation and provide equal opportunity to CBOs, strategic planning, united for a national strategy and policy to proceed well and next leader become together to make beautiful future and he expressed his hope and best wishes.
In the event chief guest of the program, Mr. Dinesh Kumar Chapagai District Public Health Officer express his gratitude for an invitation as a chief guest and said that first time he was attending such event and thankful for given extraordinary effort to reduce drug addiction problem in the nation. He was hoping that new leader came with a new vision, fresh working strategy. New leader overcome on past obstacle, difficulties and complication. He believes in it. And lastly, he expresses that, he hopes to overcome on drug abuse problem jointly all over the nation.
Lastly Chair of the event and President of RN Mr. Bishnu Fueal Sharma thankful to all the speakers, supporting INGOs Save the children, UNAIDS and AHF. Mr. sharma expressed that he was dedicated in drug and HIV since 27 years and from the begging directly or indirectly he was affiliated with RN. He also emphasize on Our concern our leadership RN always advocate to meaning full participation in policy development and change. We are always trying to push our concern in the mainstream, drug use is not a crime, health and human right are the issues we have to debate, lobbying and advocacy with government and he hopes the new leader will be led it in a different way and it will be sustainable. He expressed that he was grateful to Pokhara regional office to organize such event, as well as executive members, regional committee and staffs.

The session is divided into two (i) Open and (ii) Closed sessions. In an open session, the progress reports of projects implemented were presented by chairperson Mr. Sharma whereas the financial report was presented by the treasurer Mr. Subash Rai.
After the end of the open session, the AGM has reviewed its programme activities and put forward the valuable suggestions and feedbacks. In the closed session, Mr. Bishnu Fueal Sharma presented on the forthcoming action and future plan. Similarly, Mr. Rai presented the indicative budget and purpose budget to the donor agencies for the upcoming fiscal year. The floor was opened for discussion to review and provide suggestions on the proposed future programs. Henceforth, the reviewed activity reports and budget were approved by the General Members and set the future plan of action with its executive board, general members, and staff.
In addition, Mr. Sharma present constitution revision on a various chapter and general member were endorsed and approved with their fruitful comment. Furthermore, a new auditor and remuneration were also approved by the General Members. Valuable suggestions for effective implementation of the organizational programs in future were also given by the members.
Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Sharma and he applauded the initiative of Recovering Nepal and floor was given to advocate/election chair Mr. Rup Narayan Shrestha to led further election process of a new executive board.
Mr. Rup Narayan Shrestha has started the session with rules of election and voting method. After this Mr. Shrestha asked participant to nominate their name in election committee desk to nominate their name with one proposer and one supporter in written forms. But single one member Mr. Bishnu Fueal Sharma nominate by eastern region and supported by Pokhara region and finally general member selected Mr. Bishnu Fueal Sharma as a President of Recovering Nepal in all agreed decision. And Mr. Shrestha asked member`s to nominate their regional representative and all the regional committee selected their representative in all agreed decision. Lastly election chair Mr. Rup Narayan Shrestha declared the name list of a new executive board member of Recovering Nepal.
